Writing a Prescription for Safety: B. Braun CAPS® Announces New Advancements at ASHP 2008 CAPS® Enhances Safety for Patients, Adds Convenience Through Easy-to-Read Labeling, Standardized O.R. Color-Coding
BETHLEHEM, PA. — December 3, 2008 Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc. (CAPS®), a B. Braun Medical Inc. (B. Braun) Company, announced today that it will introduce a number of advances to its products and services, including enhanced dose labeling, extended Beyond-Use-Dating and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) color-coding for its new anesthesia syringe product line.
CAPS will feature its latest advances at the 43rd American Society of Health-System Pharmacist Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibits (ASHP) being held Dec. 8 – 10 in Orlando (Booth #236).
ASTM standard color-coding on anesthesia syringes and other easy-to-read labeling allow for safer, standardized legibility of compounded sterile preparations (CSPs), a real plus in the fast-paced hospital pharmacy and operating room environments. In addition to making labels easier to read, CAPS is offering extended Beyond-Use-Dating (BUD) which will make ordering outsourced CSPs even more convenient. With the industry’s widest range of service options, including local, same-day delivery, adding value to its service is nothing new.
“At CAPS we’re continuously developing ways to improve the safety of patient medication administration while making the pharmacist’s job easier,” said Todd Jones, Director of Marketing for CAPS. “By enhancing the legibility and size of the drug name, drug class and expiration dates on dose labeling, along with color-coding pre-filled anesthesia syringe labels, the information that pharmacists and caregivers need to read is readily available to them.”
CAPS pharmacies compound and locally deliver TPN, Cardioplegia and other CSPs to more than 1,200 hospitals of all sizes nationwide. Hospitals count on CAPS services to help ensure integrity and sterility of admixtures while reducing regulatory challenges, especially those associated with U.S. Pharmacopoeia Chapter <797> (USP <797>).
